Tuesday wasn't a banner performance for Alexander Grier, but West End Baseball 14U still managed to pull out an 11-6 victory over Altoona Curve Juniors in seven innings at North Cobb Christian School, .
Grier let up five in 3 1/3, but the bullpen allowed one run and the offense banged out 13 to help secure the win for West End Baseball 14U.
Hamilton McCauley got a hit in each of his three at bats. He singled in the third inning and doubled in the fifth and seventh innings.
Sean McDermott pitched lights out for West End Baseball 14U. McDermott held Altoona Curve Juniors hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.
Nick Barton paced Altoona Curve Juniors at the plate. Barton went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the fourth inning.
Mikey McNamera got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed one run over two innings. McNamera struck out none, walked none and gave up three hits.
In the bottom of the first, Altoona Curve Juniors grabbed the early lead, 2-0. Barton got things going for Altoona Curve Juniors with a single. A groundout by Brandon Raquet then moved Barton from first to second. Altoona Curve Juniors then tacked on more runs when Ripka scored on an RBI single by Tucker Triebold.
West End Baseball 14U brought home one run in the second inning, and matched that run total in the fourth. In the second, West End Baseball 14U scored on an RBI single by Andrew LaFlam, scoring Davis.
West End Baseball 14U stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring five runs on three singles and a walk by Davis.
West End Baseball 14U tacked on one more run in the top of the fourth when Satterfield stole home.
After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Altoona Curve Juniors faced just a 7-5 deficit. An RBI double by Barton and a two-run double by Zach Ripka gave Altoona Curve Juniors life. West End Baseball 14U stopped the rally after McNamera got Caleb Seylor to ground out.
One run in the bottom of the sixth helped Altoona Curve Juniors close its deficit to 7-6. A sacrifice fly by Ripka triggered Altoona Curve Juniors' comeback. But, McDermott got Seylor to fly out to end the inning.
West End Baseball 14U piled on four more runs in the top of the seventh. A clutch error scored Blake Brady to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by McCauley's double, plating Cameron Jensen.
